Animals Could be the World’s Best Teachers

Sep 04, 2023 Seemeen Khan

Last Teachers’ Day, just as I finished sending a message to my school teacher I heard a bee whizz past me. I automatically ducked to avoid getting stung and saw that a whole bunch of them were making a hive under my AC unit. I could almost see the Queen Bee giving them orders on building the hive. What an efficient leader! I could learn a lesson or two on how to unite a community from the Queen Bee!

That’s when it struck me that there are so many teachers in the animal world surrounding us and on Teachers’ day, we must not forget to salute them!

A Lesson on Hard work

A single Honeybee can pollinate over 5000 plants in a day! What amazing worth ethics they must have to be able to put in this kind of hard work. I could certainly learn a thing or two from them.

A Lesson on Listening

My dog teaches me that if I listen properly and closely, I can understand my environment so much better. I can protect and take care of my loved ones if I just pause and listen better

A Lesson on Hope - The butterfly in my balcony teaches me that if I am patient I will evolve from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly with time. I must never give up hope when I feel that I am not good enough.

Capability - The bat teaches me that we are blessed with so much power and that we are capable of doing great things, if we just give ourselves a chance. Bats may hunt in the dark by using their ability to listen to sound waves to move around, find their food and live carefully

A Lesson on Team Spirit - Have you seen a big group of tiny ants lugging a fragment of mithai all the way to their anthill? They are able to achieve it with their coordinated effort and willingness to carry the burden that comes in their share. Isn’t that how good teams works?

A Lesson on Gentleness - One of the largest animals has the gentlest touch-our very own haathi mere saathi. Elephants are empathetic and compassionate. They are so gentle with the mahouts that take care of them- they can even shed a tear if their human is unhappy. They also care for the baby elephant in their herd with all gentleness. Just like elephants we must learn to have kindness for everyone even if they seem so much smaller than us.

A Lesson on Spreading Happiness - Cats have a sixth sense – they can make out someone isn’t happy and they quietly come and rub themselves on your legs, or plonk themselves on your lap and just start purring. Just that little contact can bring such a sense of warmth. These little creatures really do know how to spread smiles all around.

A Lesson on Sacrifice -

If I had a piece of chocolate in my mouth I would immediately gobble it up. But not the mother or father bird who picks up a worm in its beak and carries it all the way for its baby birds waiting in the nest. They think first of the one who can’t help itself and then only think of their own needs- that’s real sacrifice.

Why don’t you also spend this Teachers’ Day looking around you at the wonderful creatures in the animal world and think about the life lessons they give you every single day- and say a loud “Happy Teachers’ Day” to them as well!
